Easter Prep is Hopping Right Along

Kalibur and Kalese Merrill spring into action to help fill Easter eggs

Somebunny is busy gearing up for Easter! Melissa, along with her husband, Nolan Merrill, their three kids, and helpful members of the community, have already started filling eggs for a well-loved spring tradition in Norwood – the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The event is set to kick off at 10 am sharp on Saturday, April 4 at Town Park.

“We have 2269 eggs filled so far,” Melissa stated. “For the second year in a row, the Lone Cone Livestock Club 4H group has helped out. This year they filled 1471 eggs.”

Although the current count is commendable, it’s nowhere near the projected goal. “Our minimum number to fill will be 8000 but we hope for even more,” Melissa said.

Now in its eleventh year, the Annual Easter Egg Hunt is sponsored by The Divide, owned by Scot and Jamie Romaine, and the Merrill family. As in years past, the morning will begin with a free town breakfast from 8 to 10 am at The Divide. “Everyone is welcome,” Jamie commented. “We enjoy giving back to the community.”

As the weather warms and a hint of Spring is in the air, not only are eggs being filled, other behind the scenes preparations are underway as well. Overseen by Cheryl Jerabek, decorations are in the process of being planned and purchased. Soon, flyers will be designed and posted.

Careful coordination is always in order. To make the event fair (and safe), the eggs are distributed in designated areas according to age groups. For younger participants, eggs are filled with toddler-appropriate snacks.

This year’s line-up is expected to include a special appearance by the beloved Easter Bunny and his dinosaur sidekick. As always, families are reminded to bring their own basket, bucket, or bag. Children will gather in their designated age groups before the countdown. At 10 am on the dot, the fun begins.

“We are so excited to be able to continue offering this fun event for the community and hope to see a lot of families there,” Melissa commented. “It always puts a smile on my face when a kid comes running to their parents with a full basket of eggs.”

Community involvement continues to play a big role in making the Easter Egg Hunt possible. Groups or organizations interested in helping with egg filling are encouraged to reach out to Melissa Merrill via Facebook. For those who would like to volunteer at the event with activities such as face painting or other kid-friendly fun, contact Jamie Romaine at The Divide.

See ya there!
